Abstract

The Holy Lance in Vienna! An archaeometallurgical and historical research project. This session presents an interdisciplinary research project on the wellknown Holy Lance kept in Vienna (Kunsthistorisches Museum), which once formed part of the Insignia of the Holy Roman Empire. The papers wil lreconsider archaeological and historical aspects of this 'winged Lance' with a focus on chronological and chorological aspects. One paper will present the provisional results of X-Ray photography, toolmark-analysis, EDXRF-analysis and the results on the steps of production (smithingtechnology) of this object, looking also on the the silver and gold sheets which have been added to the lance later.
