Abstract | This session deals with the image of the oriental/ islamic world in literature and painting. The oriental/ islamic world serves as a mirror as well as a fascinating counterworld. The papers will investigate the depiction and transformation of these (fictional) images of the oriental/islamic culture by focussing on the central role of medieval counsellors as well as on the 'Orientdiskurs' in Wilhelms Willehalm or the polnisch paintings in the 15th century. |
