Session 1508: Reconstructing a 7th-Century Timber Hall

Thursday 14 July 2005, 09.00-10.30

Sponsor:Bede's World, Jarrow
Organiser:Laura M. Sole, Bede's World, Jarrow
Abstract

Bede's World, the museum of early Northumbria, has an experimental form whereon stand a number of full-scale realisations of buildings known from archaeological evidence. Plans now exist to reconstruct Building A4 from Yeavering - a 'royal hall'. The extent to which a three-dimensional structure can be deduced from the foundation levels of a vanished timber building will be the theme of this round table, at which the reconstruction proposals will be offered for review.
Participants include Richard Darrah (Independent Scholar, Hodnet), Colm F. O'Brien (University of Newcastle), and Laura Sole (Bede's World, Jarrow)
