Abstract

This session examines didactic and other treatments, chiefly but not exclusively in Latin, of parenting either by biological parents or by others using metaphors to suggest an analogous relationship. Topics discussed include genre and gender, techniques of composition, trans-generational attitudes, and the education of the young. The session has a strong Carolingian base but extends its scope geographically to Old Rus and chronologically to the early fifteenth century.
