Abstract

The session deals with the well known German 'mystic' and preacher Meister Eckhart and his interaction with the cultural situation of main European cities such as Erfurt, Cologne, Strasbourg, and Paris. One of the main topics will be how the work of Eckhart is related to a specific municipal culture, especially to the Beguines, other monasteries, but also to craftsmen and merchants. The reception of the work in the cities will also be discussed.
