Thursday 12 July 2007, 09.00-10.30

Organiser:Eva de Visscher, Oriel College, University of Oxford
Moderator/Chair:Christine Feld, Clare Hall, University of Cambridge
Abstract

During the 13th century England witnessed great changes in its Jewish-Christian relations, culminating in its expulsion of the Jews in 1290. This session will explore perceptions and realities of Judaism and Jewish life, concentrating on Oxford, from three different perspectives. Paper a deals with the concept of 'the Jew' in the theology of Roger Bacon; paper b with manuscript evidence of Jewish-Christian scholarly collaboration, and paper c with Jewish-Christian economic relations in Oxford.
