Abstract

Research on medieval hunting treatises has redeveloped during the past two decades. New texts and manuscripts have come to light, but much remains to be worked on. This session aims at providing a general state of the art in a European perspective, a more precise view on Ibero-Romanic texts, and a case-study of a hitherto unstudied text, the French falconry treatise by Arthelouche de Alagona. These texts provide important material for the history of medieval science and technology, have a rich technical vocabulary, and shed light on important social practices.
