Paper 1223-a | Remarks on the Erfurt Corpus of Augustine's Sermons (Language: English) Index terms: Hagiography, Language and Literature - Latin, Manuscripts and Palaeography, Sermons and Preaching |
Paper 1223-b | Aspects of the Recently Discovered Erfurt Sermons (Language: English) Index terms: Hagiography, Language and Literature - Latin, Manuscripts and Palaeography, Sermons and Preaching |
Abstract | Six hitherto unknown Augustinian sermons were discovered in the course of a long-period-project of the CSEL-Commission, the aim of which is providing a catalogue of all extant manuscripts containing genuine or pseudepigraphic works of St Augustine. As far as the Erfurt-sermons are concerned, the attestation of three of them in the contemporary Indiculum of the bishop's writings as well as a close examination of language, style, and contents prove the authenticity of the texts. The third paper will show that a preaching-mode could also be adapted to written literature, if the orthodoxy of the author had to be confirmed. |
