Abstract

Two years ago, during the IMC 2007, a short series of sessions on the topic of Medieval Urban Literacy was organised. At the IMC 2008, another short series was organised, and at the IMC 2009 no fewer than nine sessions will take place. This suggests that interest in the topic is very much alive. The proceedings of the IMC sessions will be published, as will the papers presented at a workshop organised in Brussels in June 2008. Now is the moment to pause. Where do we go from here? Are there topics which have not been touched upon yet? As the project aims at a comparative approach, the question needs asking whether certain areas have not been underrepresented. In short, the round table will address the question: Whither Medieval Urban Literacy? Participants in this year’s sessions will introduce the discussion, in which all delegates with an interest in the topic are invited to join.
