Abstract

The aim of this section is to explore how the phenomena of migrations and travel influenced development of medieval society in three basic layers (urban population, peasants, and nobility). The first paper deals with different aspects of migrations of Slavs to Southern Italy with special emphasis on formation of their organized communities in multiethnic society. The second explores how the trade routes influenced migrations and permanent settlement forming multi-ethnic character of medieval Slavonian towns, as a typical example of Central European colonist towns. The third discusses types and influences of travel on the life of the members of Slavonian aristocracy.
