Abstract

The panel examines the major literary contribution of the 12th-century churchman John of Salisbury, his Policraticus, from the perspective of both its sources and its later readership. The paper by Grellard examines John's naturalistic interpretation of miracles and how he later used it in his appraisal of Becket's life. The paper by Lachaud surveys the process by which his major political doctrines were disseminated during the 13th century, especially in the context of Mendicant preaching.
