| Abstract | As medieval texts were copied manually and copyright did not exist, the distribution of a text in the Middle Ages was mostly accompanied by the adaption or even transformation of one or other aspects of a text (structure, form, content, language). Reasons for the adaptation were diverse: the new text had another function, it was intended for another public, or a different cultural climate could in the course of time force the insertion of new ideas. In this session, we would like to reflect on the nature of the adaptations and transformations of texts and ideas in the Middle Ages, and on their link to evolutions in medieval society. |
