Abstract | Eckhart is one of those authors who has read others widely and who deliberately refers to others (often explicitly in his Latin works, sometimes more indirectly in the German ones). Because he is more than an eclectic reader, this session will show not solely Eckhart's reliance upon older tradition and his borrowing, but foremost his creative re-writing of previous attempts, so that even his direct quotations are no longer citations, but recreations that sound or taste more like Eckhart than an ensemble of ingredients which he has made use of. |
