Abstract | This session will explore the variation in the relationships between travelling performers and their patrons in East Anglia, Kent, and across the kingdom. What patterns can we discern within the variations? Are patrons' relationships with travelling performers entirely individual, or are factors like a patron's social station, family connections, or location of residence significant? What attempts were made by local authorities to control touring performances? How did national politics affect the appearance and location of drama and performance on the local level? |
