Abstract

The final panel in the 'Journeying on Medieval Routes' series will assess the evidence for the experience of travelling provided by the accounts of late antique and medieval pilgrims, examining both Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and Muslim hajj to the Holy Cities of the Hijaz. Papers will address both the practical aspects of pilgrimage - which routes were used and the problems and advantages associated with them - as well as the emotional and spiritual aspects of pilgrimage journeys.
