Abstract

This is the first of two sessions dedicated to the circulation of biblical manuscripts in the MiddleAges. Focusing on St Augustine's text(s) of the Bible, the papers presented in this session will cover a period from late Antiquity to the late Middle Ages. The focus of the individual papers will be:
- the division of the Bible in chapters and verses, an issue which to this day has not been satisfactorily resolved by modern scholarship, both with regard to the division of Scripture in Antiquity and, in the follow-up, in the Middle Ages
- Augustine's response to and use of the various Latin versions of Scripture
- the reception of Augustine's De consensu evangelistarum in medieval Gospel harmonies.
