Abstract

The community at the Cathedral Priory of Durham underwent several transformations following the advent of Norman administration and the monastic reform of the community by William of St-Calais in 1083. Although many of the administrative and social changes have been well-studied by scholars, several important changes in the cultural and intellectual aspects of the community's life, outside of its manuscript production, have generally been neglected. This panel will bring together three scholars from a variety of disciplines who are all examining the effects of the Norman Conquest and the migration of Norman culture on the community at Durham during the 12th century.
