Abstract

The first paper sheds light on six stained glass windows that together formed a portrait series representing a male ancestral line going back six generations. Why were these windows created and what were the intended functions? The second paper addresses the issues of gift-giving and memoria in medieval sources from the Principalities of Walachia and Moldavia in Romania, focusing on the function and meaning of votive portraits of princes and their wives as founders of churches and monasteries. The final paper in this session addresses visualizations of travels to the hereafter.
