Abstract

'The Production and Use of English Manuscripts 1060 to 1220' is a project funded for five years by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council, until August 2010. In the first two papers, the Project team look back through their work and how it has radically changed their understanding of their topic, from the minute physical detail of the production of individual books to the wider questions of the contexts for the writing of English in this crucial period. Then Andrew Prescott, a member of the Project's Advisory Board, reflects on the Project's work and its implications for future research.
