Abstract

The comparative history of law has been more often proposed than undertaken. Following the suggestions of Paul Hyams in his 'Common Law and the French Connection' and the work of Stephen D. White in his Custom, Kinship, and Gifts to Saints, this session examines the practice of consent to gifts in three areas that would form the core of the Angevin Empire. Conclusions will also be drawn concerning the possibilities and difficulties of writing legal history from charters.
