Abstract

The session will explore changing ideas of the poor who were provided for in hospitals over the longue duree from 12th to early 16th century. It will consider different definitions of the 'poor' or the 'sick', how and why hospital provision changed over time, and what expectations there of hospital residents. The geographical scope of the session will be England and northern France.
