Abstract

This lunchtime lecture will review developments in the subject since the 1990s. The first part of the lecture - Money and Society - will address the role of money in urbanisation, and the associated process of monetisation, and the use of credit. The second part of the lecture - Money and the Economy - will review recent work on money supply, [composition and aggregates], prices, and Gross Domestic Product. The final section compares the currencies of England and Scotland, and the relative merits and demerits of strong and weak currencies.
