Abstract

Following the SMFS-sponsored discussion on feminist ethics in 2010, the 2011 SMFS Roundtable will consider the intersection between feminist politics, ethics, pedagogy, and the notion of the putative 'standard', particularly within classroom and institutional contexts. Whilst feminist research practices and funding issues have come under scrutiny in recent years, the issue of feminist pedagogical practices and the politicised issue of 'standards' has not. This year's SMFS round table discussion will therefore debate what exactly the 'standard' is that 'needs' to be maintained, how one can avoid translating that into politicised discrimination against feminist-oriented practices, and the benefits to be gained from such approaches.

Participants include Liz Herbert McAvoy (Swansea University), Gillian R. Overing (Wake Forest University, North Carolina), Caroline Palmer (Boydell & Brewer, Woodbridge), and Julie Ann Smith (University of Sydney).
