Abstract | In July 2013 we will hold an interdisciplinary, international conference at Oxford University on the practice and politics of psalm translation from the earliest English writing to the English Civil War with contributions from a wide range of international scholars. This session is offered as a forum for discussions about the culture of psalm translation in the Anglo-Saxon period which we hope will feed into the following summer's cross-period conference. The psalter played a central role in Anglo-Saxon religious life: papers will address poetic and prose translations of the psalms in West-Saxon court and monastic culture from Alfred to Wulfstan. |
