Abstract

The study of the process of translation and intercultural exchange in the Middle Ages has not produced many studies yet on the role of the Near East to stimulate exchanges between Greek, Arabic and Latin cultures. This session wants to promote deeper attention in this field by focusing on one city in which these cultures were closely in contact, Antioch. Many bridge figures between these different traditions, such as Symeon Seth or Stephen of Pisa, were connected with Antioch. The session will also help to address the theoretical issue of how the sharing of urban spaces influence multicultural encounters.
