Abstract

Old Hispanic chant is the second largest extant plainchant repertoire from medieval Western Europe. Despite this, it remains largely unexamined: its adiastematic notation has long been considered a barrier to the study of this chant. In this session we will present the Chant Editing and Analysis Program (CEAP), a new e-tool that allows the transcription of adiastematic notations and the detection of their neumatic patterns. We will also present the results of an analysis of the vespertini genre, which has been produced with the aid of the CEAP. Finally, we will present a recently discovered Iberian pre-Calixtinus office of St James the Apostle.
