Abstract

The Regesta Imperii, one of the most important organisations of research on medieval history in Europe, has for a long time been collecting comprehensive information on the deeds of emperors and kings of the Holy Roman Empire from the Carolingians to Maximilian I (c. 715-1519). This first section will present new perspectives on European history, made possible by a modern approach to the traditional means of research which encompasses cultural and social history as well as the complex relationship between rulers and their magnates.
