Abstract | The Muslim World in the Age of the Crusades studies the impact of the crusades on the Islamic World. The central focus of the session is on the direct or indirect response to the crusades and to the prolonged settlement of Latin Europeans in the Middle East and North Africa between the 11th and 15th centuries. The session includes topics such as Muslim understandings of the crusades and the challenge they posed, intellectual and cultural transformations within the world of Islam generated as a response to the crusades, and everyday relations between the Franks and indigenous populations. |
