Abstract

This session considers the uses of stone as a means of conveying ideologies, transmitting ideas of past and present identity and shaping the ritual landscape of early medieval Britain. The issues addressed include the legacy of Imperial Rome in Pictland, the material culture of baptism, and awareness of Columban traditions in Viking Age York.
