Abstract

This round table will present the AHRC-funded database project on 'The Making of Charlemagne's Europe, 768-814' (in progress). The database collects data relating to people, places, and objects - and the relationships between them - extracted from all surviving documentary sources relevant to the reign of Charlemagne, across his whole empire. The aim is to present this material in such a way as to maximise possibilities for comparison across regions, and to allow searching for patterns of behaviour as much as for known individuals. We will also present a test-run of the user interface and mapping tool.

Participants include: Gianmarco De Angelis (King's College London), Sören Kaschke (King's College London), and Rachel Stone (Fitzwilliam Museum / King's College London)
