Abstract

This session explores spiritual power and control in mystical texts. The papers explore the relationship between and the challenges presented by radical mystical longings and experiences to ecclesiastical models of power and devotional practice. The papers consider the relationship between God and the soul, ideas of union, and how spiritual anthropology is negotiated and renegotiated within various monastic contexts.
