Abstract

As part of a group of sessions, these papers celebrate the diversity of sources concerning Medieval Scandinavia. 'The Literature of Medieval Scandinavia' builds upon popular sessions last year and complements the proposed Scandinavian history sessions ('Does Size Matter?'). These papers provide material of broader interest to legal historians, those with an interest in performance studies, and scholars of both poetry and prose, as well as both oral and written literatures. This session, Session 3/5, questions the nature of power and gender in Medieval Scandinavian literature, from the prose sagas to heroic poetry.
