Abstract

This strand explores the concept of Time in the Age of Bede using textual and material evidence. Session II examines theological and liturgical Time in Bede's thought and Insular Culture: paper A (Ó Carragáin) argues that High Crosses are kinetic, dynamic objects which make their statements about history and time progressively through the course of the liturgical day, and of the seasons of the year; paper B (Mac Carron) discusses the theological implications of counting years from the Nativity or from the Incarnation in Bede's corpus; paper C (Foot) explores the importance of liturgical time in Bede's life and writings.
