Abstract

2014 will be the 1400th anniversary of the death of Charlemagne. This session will look at some aspects of his longevity. The papers from this session are part of a project examining the appropriation and treatment of Charlemagne in different European cultures. Each paper will address the treatment of the 'Matter of France' in a different literary or visual culture.
