Abstract

By involving experts in various disciplines, this session will focus on the following questions that have never been specifically tackled before: whether Dionysius's hierarchical vision of the celestial and terrestrial realms could be considered a consequence of a wider late antique-mentality and not simply a development of the Neoplatonic legacy; how Dionysian thought nurtured the development of 'visual thinking' (i.e. a way of memorizing, organizing, and delivering information) that affected also the production of visual arts, especially, though not exclusively, in the monastic milieu.
