Abstract

This panel aims to provide a portrait of the Portuguese university in the Middle Ages, concerning some of the various aspects of the topic of food, looking for examples of famine and abundance. One the one hand, we will address the rents that allowed the maintenance of the studium generale and those who studied in it, while on the other hand we will analyse the problems related with the subsistence of the poor students at the studium. Finally, we will also discuss the university rituals, such as the banquets that took place in several academic ceremonials.
