Abstract | These sessions commemorate the 800th anniversary of the accession of Honorius III to the papacy in 1216. The pontificate of Honorius III (1216-27) arguably ranks alongside the most important reigns of the thirteenth century, yet despite his central importance to the history of the early 13th-century West, Honorius has often languished in the shadow of his famous predecessor, Innocent III. These sessions seek to reappraise the reign of Honorius through the examination of different aspects of his pontificate. |
