| Abstract | Bishops and archbishops of the 12th and 13th centuries were agents of international learning and reform. Some of them got into trouble, caught between the international ideals and the realities of local politics, while others appear to have worked harmoniously with secular authories. This session brings together three very different experiences of two archbishops and a bishop who were engaged in the promotion and development of the reform programme in their day. |
