Abstract

This session will focus on the depiction of Jewish Otherness in architecture. It will focus on the sculptural and painted decorations showing Jewish dance, flowers, plants, and animals related to Jewish tradition, Hebrew and Hebraic inscriptions which show foreign tradition regarding Christian tradition in Europe. The focus is set on the link between private and public spaces, political, economic and cross-cultural relationships focusing on the architectural and spatial construction of Jewish and Christian otherness and identity during the Middle Ages (1215-1500).
