| Abstract | This is the second of two sessions bringing together papers exploring themes of 'otherness' within the lands which fell under the lordship of the Plantagenet rulers in the 12th and 13th centuries. The session seeks to represent a wide geographical and chronological range to bring together research with a basis in both England and the continental dominions of the Plantagenet dynasty. The theme of 'otherness' is explored from a variety of approaches, including considerations of politics, identity, local difference, and 'other' members of communities; considering these perceived or actual differences will facilitate discussion of the nature of society within and across the Plantagenet dominions, which were linked by a shared rulership, yet distinguished by local identity and custom. |
