Abstract

Under the name of SHELL (Society of Historical English Language and Linguistics), which was estalished in 2001 in Japan, we organise four sessions entitled 'Medieval English: Language, Literature, and Literacy'. Papers discuss Old and / or Middle English language and literature from the viewpoints of paleography, syntax, semantics, literary theory, prosody, translation, as well as the common theme of IMC 2017, otherness. Members are both veterans and younger scholars who enjoy their knowledge of medieval English and wish to share their interest with the IMC audience. The result of these sessions will be published in a year or so.
