Abstract | In early 2017, a rising tide of racism and xenophobia dominated the news. In response, The Public Medievalist, a popular web-magazine by medievalists, inaugurated a special series: 'Race, Racism, and the Middle Ages'. This series signaled a shift in their core mission to the idea that public medievalism need not - in fact should not - remain neutral in the face of injustice. The power of our discipline is that it can speak to the public not just about esoterica, but can positively inform wider public discourses. The panelists, all staff members and contributors to The Public Medievalist, will discuss their work and the challenges and opportunities inherent in this work. |
