Sponsor:HistoryLab+
Organiser:Marci Freedman, School of Arts, Languages & Cultures, University of Manchester
Moderator/Chair:Marci Freedman, School of Arts, Languages & Cultures, University of Manchester
Abstract

The purpose of this round table is to gather together early career researchers and more established lecturers to offer their experiences and advice on the academic job market. They will speak about good practice for CVs and covering letters, both for teaching and research posts. It will specifically deconstruct 'essential' and 'desirable' criteria, and how to ensure that your application illustrates how you fit the post. The round table will also discuss the differences between European and North American applications and the variation of documents that are requested. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask our speakers about their own academic journeys, as well as share their concerns about academic employment.

This round table discussion is sponsored by HistoryLab+, a network to support late-stage postgraduates, early career historians, and independent scholars by providing access to training, career development, and networking opportunities.

Participants include Catherine Fletcher (Swansea University), Laura L. Gathagan (State University of New York, Cortland), and Charlie Rozier (Swansea University).
