Abstract

This is the second of two panels on male-male relationships in the medieval period and their depiction in the present. The two panels bring together history, music, art history and literature to think through how relationships between men are produced, depicted and maintained in the past and present. This panel focuses on reading medieval panel paintings, devotional music and the lives of male saints in the light of the gay male adoption of St Sebastian as a cult figure of homosexual eroticism.
