Abstract

This session focusses on the importance of identity in the medieval period, ranging from the Early to the Late Middle Ages. By discussing a wide range of processes of identity formation, including ethnic, urban, religious, and social identity, we will be able to compare these processes and to assess their similarities as well as peculiarities.
