Abstract

This round table discussion, the culmination of three linked sessions on critical studies of Old English masculinities, seeks to address the future of the field of Old English masculinity studies. Our participants will discuss new directions in the field, ways in which medieval scholars can combat the appropriation of medieval masculinities by exclusionary ideologies and movements, and the contributions that the study of Old English masculinities can make to medieval gender studies and gender studies more broadly.

Participants include David Clark (University of Leicester), Heide Estes (Monmouth University, New Jersey), Dana Oswald (University of Wisconsin-Parkside), and Renée R Trilling (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign).
