Abstract

The ecclesiastical documents, Unam Sanctam (1302) and Hæc Sancta (1415), represent two diverse traditions within the Catholic church, the former voicing papalism the latter advocating conciliarist theory. In our session we will present different aspects of these documents and their impact. The first speaker will compare their rhetorical structures and discuss some linguistic and literary aspects. The second speaker will deal with how the documents were commented on and interpreted by canonists. The third speaker will present how the diverse traditions, stemming from these documents, coincided in an early modern conflict.
