Abstract

Miriam Czock explored the uncanny ways that time and eternity were entwined for medieval people. In order to honor her memory, this session discusses the early medieval perception of time and the implementation of eschatological concepts in the early Middle Ages. To this end, each paper discusses early medieval notions of time and eternity by focusing on different sources, with discussions of relevant evidence in the Carolingian Libri Vitae, Regino of Prüm's Chronicle, the sermons on salvation of Abbo of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the context of the late-9th century Viking raids.
