Abstract | This session explores various aspects of religious life and its impact on the Northern Adriatic in the medieval times and beyond. In accordance with the specific strand, the proposed papers will each analyse a particular topic, such as: the practices of pilgrimage to the devotional sites located in the proximity to urban centers of the Adriatic littoral, practices such as walking barefoot, penitentiary silence and rowing small boats; the impact of medieval miraculous art representations on the ceremonies that took place as intercessions for climate changes; a ritual taking place in various parts of the Adriatic littoral, in accord with a very ancient custom prevailing for centuries in the coastal communities and providing divine protection for their main source of income. |
