Abstract

Research on manuscripts continues to gain prominence in the field of medieval studies. The second session will offer new approaches to the study of script from art-historical, computational and pedagogical points of view. Focusing on the image of script (SchriftBild), Sissis will discuss the place of Poggio Bracciolini's humanistic script in the cultural and artistic environment of contemporary Florence. Guéville and Wrisley will examine scribal practices in Parisian Bibles using word- and abbreviation-based automatic transcriptions. Introducing a hitherto unknown manuscript, Mathisen will consider how students can be introduced to palaeography and liturgy at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
